Winter like conditions have returned to our area with the montains getting a lot of snow and we in Dubois at 7,000 feet elevation getting a little ourselves. It is raining again this evening and we have had just over 2" of rain in the last several days. That has slowed melting and that has been good as the weather a week ago was in 70's and river was up to my yard.
This spring has brought some unusual birds along the river. They occur only occassionaly but it has been years since I have seen harlequin Ducks such as this pair I photographed from my studio. The next day we had a pair of Cinnamon Teals which is the first I have ever seen. There have been an unusually large number of Varied Thrushes and Spotted Sandpipers too. A good friend of mine reported seeing Snow Geese just east of town. I have never seen them in this part of Wyoming.
