Lower Ramshorn Lake. What a pristine beautiful spot and unheard of by many Dubois residents.
As has become our habit this spring, my pardner, Tom Lucas and myself rose early in the morning this past saturday to check things out in the high country. We ran into snow at the 9,000 foot level while trying the road[trail] into the Ramshorn Lakes north of Dubois. There is still more snow on the ground there than bare ground but the lakes were unfrozen and it was a beautiful morning. On the way up we watched two Bull elk climbing a pretty steep hill which was sure winding them. Just to get out of the way of two old cowboy artists. On our return we ran into two fawn Mule Deer fawns and I got a number of pictures of them.
In preparation for the Saratoga Art Show I have been busy painting the landscape from that area. Saratoga and the upper Platte river valley of southern Wyoming is a very rural beautiful and interesting area for landscapes and I have always loved painting it. Many residents have supported that effort for which I am very grateful. This is an 18"x24" Oil Painting of a rain shower passing over the irrigated meadows of the river valley.
This painting has sold through the Blackhawk Gallery this summer.

This weekend I will be in Saratoga, Wyoming for the annual 4th of July Art Show there at the new Art Center just completed this year. I haven't been in the building yet but pictures of it are impressive. I will be the featured artist and this painting will be the Show Poster. Saratoga is always a lot of fun and I have always done very well there.
I have returned from that show and it was pretty slow with a number of artists being skunked. I did pretty well though and am happy with the results.

Our 3d anniversary Open House Show was a tremendous success. We are now busy rearranging art on the walls to cover up empty holes. Just the thing you want to see in a gallery. We estimate well over 200 people in attendance and it may be closer to 300. Pictured here are the gallery pardners, left to right, Tom and Tammy Lucas, Chris Phelps, Vicki and Gary Keimig, Verna and Bud Boller. That chocolate cake buried in Strawberries was a surprise for us-ordered by our daughter Kim. It was day befor my birthday and week befor both Vicki and Chris so it had all our names on it. Was a real favorite being loaded with cholesterol.
This is another recently completed painting 18"x24" Oil. I love doing cloud scapes and this was for the show in Saratoga but was bought off the easle by some really great folks who came into the gallery in Dubois. It is of Platte River Valley at Saratoga, Wyoming.

I have been pretty busy with my painting as I have a show in saratoga, Wyoming coming up the 4th. Then on to Golden, Colorado to trade out paintings at the Spirits of the Wind Gallery. Not to mention the 3d Anniversary Open House
at our gallery here in Dubois. It was a great event and sales were very good.
This is an 18"x24" Oil Painting for the Colorado Gallery, Sheep Lake, depicting a view just inside Rocky Mountain Natl Park near Estes Park.
This painting won the Landscape Award at the Saratoga Wyoming show and is now offered for sale through the Spirits in the Wind Gallery in Golden, Colorado

Ran across this recently weaned Moose calf and spent some time watching, photographing and seemingly visiting with her. She would browse awhile then watch me as if trying to explain her world to me. Her various expressions were priceless

This is the first time Tom has been on top of the rim and he agrees that I have shocked and awed him by the experience as I promised. He spent some time with the glasses searching out the wonders of the glacial carved Torrey valley below. The remnants of the fast dissapearing glacier can be seen on the skyline. That canyon below in the granite contains some of the most beautiful glacial lakes, cascades and waterfalls I have ever seen.
Passing within yards of Bighorn Sheep. We counted 13 Rams all sunning themselves in the rocks and brush. There are ten in this picture. We lost count on the number of Elk we jumped up and saw through glasses grazing on distant mountain parks. On top of the Rim we spotted several other bunches of both Rams and Ewes on the mountainside

My gallery pardner, Tom Lucas and I did manage to get out this morning and climb up onto Torrey Rim south of Dubois. With a hot cup of coffee in hand and in 4-wheel drive we chugged our way up the mountain passing many deer, elk and Bighorns on the way. With the early morning sun shining on mountains, glaciers, and wildlife everywhere we are sure we were truely blessed to participate in Natures show. It is inspirations like this that get the creative juices going. One can't help but want to get back to the easle and get that paintbrush going.
I am back to spending a great deal of time painting and concentrating mostly on my Gouache paintings. I have just finished this 18"x24" watercolor of the Grand Teton, GRAND LIGHT. It is for sale and if interested in it please contact me through www.silversagegallery.com or my e-mail at gkeimig@dteworld.com

This is an 14"x18" Oil painting that was commissioned by a collector from Arizona. GRIZZLY CROSSING was done from Bomber Creek, an area south of Dubois and a beautiful stream that I love incorporating into a number of my paintings.

I have just finished this gouache watercolor painting, Mt Moran. It is 14'x18'. I painted it from one of my favorite areas in the Tetons, Schwabachers Landing on the Snake River.

Winter like conditions have returned to our area with the montains getting a lot of snow and we in Dubois at 7,000 feet elevation getting a little ourselves. It is raining again this evening and we have had just over 2" of rain in the last several days. That has slowed melting and that has been good as the weather a week ago was in 70's and river was up to my yard.
This spring has brought some unusual birds along the river. They occur only occassionaly but it has been years since I have seen harlequin Ducks such as this pair I photographed from my studio. The next day we had a pair of Cinnamon Teals which is the first I have ever seen. There have been an unusually large number of Varied Thrushes and Spotted Sandpipers too. A good friend of mine reported seeing Snow Geese just east of town. I have never seen them in this part of Wyoming.

This is an oil painting I have just completed. It is from the Turpin Meadows road along the Buffalo River in the NE part of Jackson Hole. The Buffalo River flows westerly from its origin in the vast Teton Wilderness and finally snkes its way across the Buffalo River valley befor entering the Snake River at Moran Jct. It is one of my favorite places to paint the Tetons from. This painting is 8"x16" and can be purchased through my gallery at silversagegallery@dteworld or thru my e-mail at gkeimig@dteworld.com

I had to run home from gallery labor the other day and found this fellow[gal]sitting in a tree near my studio and just could not pass up a ton of pictures. Will make for some great paintings.

The Silver Sage Gallery is now pretty well completed. It is hard to believe what we have accomplished in a month of pretty much 7 days a week and long hours. We are really feeling good about the new addition, the remodeling and the art work we are carrying. Now we can get back to what we really do best. Creating Art.

A year like this works pretty well for finding wildlife. Snow melt is late and wildlife are at a point where they are bottled up against the snow line waiting for warmer weather which will induce melting that offers them the chance to migrate into the high country. I went out this morning hoping to find some grizzlies north of town. There is a "lot" of snow yet and didn't expect to find this many elk. About 6 miles north of town I ran into the whole north herd. Better than 3,000 head. They were everywhere and I shot many pixs for reference in future paintings. No grizzlies spotted but this herd and watching them sure made the morning jaunt worthwhile. The road is sure in bad shape and will take some real maintenance once the snow melts out.

After the success at photographing elk I can't resist going back out this morning with my pardner and artist friend Tom Lucas. We hit the jackpot with many elk and deer with great photo opportunities. Some fine material for paintings that is for sure. The scenery is awe-inspiring too. A truely great morning.

Spring remains elusive in our part of the country. It was 17 degrees this morning and barely above freezing yesterday. The river flowing past my studio wears a cloak of white. The only signs of spring are some of the migrant arrivals such as this fairly rare[for our area] White Faced Ibis' Osprey have returned and are fishing on the river. A grizzly was put down after causing havoc at the Bitterrrot Ranch N E of town and other grizzlies have made their presence known north of town. I have been watching about 40 head of elk just west of town and they are getting impatient with the slow progress of warmer weather. Just
waiting for the snow to begin melting so they can begin their trek into the high country.

The majority of construction work on the gallery is now finished so I am back to painting and my painting for the day is this 9"x12" Acrylic painting of late afternoon light filtering through this Aspen grove. If you are interested in this painting or any of the paintings listed on this site, please contact me through the Silver Sage Gallery at silversagegallery.com or email me at gkeimig@dteworld.com

We have continued "being" carpenters and the new addition to the Silver Sage Gallery is really shaping up. The ceiling is now suspended and in place. Walls painted. Lights mostly up. And our back storage-work room finished. The front window displays are in and have received excellent comments from the general public. Our landlord has finished the outside log canopy. Awaiting carpet which we hope to be soon. Have even hung some art work on the new walls. We are really happy with the way things have shaped up. From picture at left, is the new addition looking into the gallery as well as the picture at upper right. Bottom right photo is looking into the new addition from the existing gallery.

My painting for the day is this 5"x8" Acrylic painting of the Grand Teton from across Jackson Hole.

Here is my Painting-A-Day
for today. It is a 6"x6 1/2" watercolor of the Pinnacles as viewed from the Moccasin Basin area west of Dubois, Wyoming. The days last light has cast a mystical haze over the volcanic peaks. Early fall has painted the willows along the Wind River, just a small stream at this point, a dull orange with purple shadows.
This painting is available. Please contact me at http://www.silversagegallery.com/ or gkeimig@dteworld.com

Our gallery remodeling continues with my pardners and myself putting in many hours to accomplish our project befor the real season begins. Usually by May 1. We have installed 2 window displays faced with old barnwood and lighted from above. Doors need to be put on yet and log facing but we are excited with the way it is shaping up
. The girls are nearly finished with painting on walls and we have a number of small projects yet to finish. The ceiling is to be installed next weekend and carpeting is ordered.

I have just received word that my Acrylic painting, Indian Paintbrush, 11"x14" has been chosen for an illustration in the upcoming cookbook produced by the Casper Star Tribune, Wyomings newspaper. The book will feature art and photography by some of the top artists in the state

After 2 years of prompting our landlord is building an awning with log supports that will extend from our gallery and the Drug Store next door. It will be a grat addition and fits into the other overhang log awnings up and down the main street. Along with the towns boardwalks and false fronts it is a real draw to the visitor. The tourists and Dude ranch enthusiasts fall in love with our little town and this will be even more for them to talk about. I'll post another pix when it is completed along with our project. We are also planning to put in two shadow box displays in the windows yet this spring. It is definitely cutting into our painting time but going to be well worth it.

The other wing wall with Tom Lucas, my pardners art work displayed. We think it is a nice addition to the gallery this spring.

I built 2 six foot wings onto the side of the gallery this spring. My Arizona painting Saguaro Sunset shows off quite nicely on the wing wall
My painting for the day is this 6"x9" watercolor of Fall Aspens. There are a million scenes such as this in our area during fall and I never tire of painting them. If you are interested in this painting please contact me through http://www.silversagegallery.com/ or my e-mail at gkeimig@dteworld.com

I have been busy along with my pardners in the Silver Sage Gallery here in Dubois, Wyoming with a major remodeling project. This spring we added 2 new wing walls and acquired the back garage area we are now turning into Gallery space. This is a view of "In progress construction" looking towards the existing gallery. We started the gallery 2 years ago and it has been a fun and worthwhile venture. There are 4 artists in this adventure along with some consigned work. Besides myself there is Bud Boler, who does sculpture and is an extraordinare artist. If you have ever been in Jackson, Wyoming, Buds bronze of the bucking horse adorns the town square there. Tom Lucas is not only a great painter of indian still lifes but is also a master at recreating indian artifacts. Some of which could be considered a lost art. Check out Tom's blog site at http://www.tomlucasart.blogspot.com/. Chris Phelps does the most amazing silver and turquois jewelry of her own design and is even featured on the World Trade Center website. She also does some great bronze work. Dubois is an amazing place with a number of nationally known artists, writers and photographers

This is my addition from my Painting a day project. It is a 6"x8" watercolor of Two Ocean Peak and Blackrock Creek which flows west from the continental divide west of Dubois. Wyoming eventually emptying into the Buffalo River and then the Snake River in Jackson Hole. It can be great fishing.
I have been sidelined the last week on my painting projects as I am busy doing a major remodel project on my little Gallery in Dubois in anticipation[regardless of the upcoming forcast of a recession]of a great summer season.

My painting for today is this 9"x12" Oil Painting of the Grand Canyon, GRAND CANYON SNOW SQUALLS. This time of year is a favorite of mine to be in the southwest Canyon country. Magnificent spring showers which can consist of snow, rain, sleet, and hail all within several minutes of each other interspersed with brilliant sunlight and cloud effects that defy description.

Our March weather remains typical for us. Everyone is complaining about the weather so that is an indication that it is normal. The mountains are getting good snows but we could use a little more around here. The last few days have been on again off again blizzard conditions for 10 minutes then clearing off. Today is especially cold and will not get to freezing. I did a little photographing above the studio including this shot of the Ramshorn Peak between snow squalls.
