NORTH PLATTE ISLAND 18"X28" GOUACHE WATERCOLOR PAINTING
The last couple of days I have been dragging along not getting a whole lot done as I and anti-biotics never did get along too well but I do feel a litle better today so maybe I have this whatever flue whipped. don't know what it is as I had the Swine Flue shot, the regular flue shot and the pneumonia shot. Guess I had not been shot enough. I have managed though to call this pretty well finished. I can all ready see a couple of minor details I'll need to fix and wondered about the deer being hidden and thought I might bring him out a little more until I began writing this blog entry and watching a doe from my studio window moving along the brush at the rivers edge. No. I think I will leave him the way he is.

Beautiful painting! I love the details, color and depth you have achieved.

I hope you are feeling better. (Maybe it's a "too many shots flu"?)

I love the hidden quality of the deer- that's just how they are in nature- you happen upon them by surprise (and have to look twice). This is a stunning watercolor piece Gary. Deep, rich landscape colors and serene water hues. Lovely work!

I agree with leaving the doe obscure for the observant eye. Looks great just the way it is.

Well, Gary, guess I will go out on the limb. I have been looking at your painting and I think you should bring the buck out in detail just a tad more. I can't see him and where he is, I should be able to. All I see is a white spot that is his rearend. All the detail you have in the painting is so good, but the buck looks not complete.
You can get over the flu first or "Wyoming Crud". Don't work on it or look at it until you are feeling better. Wish you a speedy recovery. Took me 3 1/2 weeks to get over it.

One other thing----that tree above his should is coming right down through his shoulder. Maybe move him forward so the foliage is behind him.?
I love the water and bank, get well soon.

Oops, left out the er in shoulder.

I love this Gary - it's one of my favourites among your recent paintings.

Although your deer looks almost transparent, I think much of the wildlife we observe isn't always apparent immediately. They often appear where we don't expect them to, or they're there all along and we don't see them until they move - which is just as it should be.

Wonderful Gary! I actually had to scroll down to remind myself that this was a painting!! You capture the scenery with amazing detail and depth. I love watching your paintings unfold. I hope you feel better soon! Just take it slow. Whatever these bugs are, they are putting people into the hospital in Illinois...

Wow! I thought it was a photo at first that you were planning to use as a reference! So lifelike... such gorgeous, rich colors.

This is really nice. I agree with leaving the deer as elusive as it is, just the way we often see them.

Glad you're starting to feel better.
